Tyler, I think you hit an important idea here - the idea that we are not always right, our opinion is not the only one that matters. I don't believe that man can gain wisdom until he has had the chance to ponder other ideas and viewpoints. Thanks for sharing!
My thought on this is, anybody can gain knowledge about a subject then regurgitate that knowledge back. However, to be wise is to have the knowledge and being able to show soundness in judgment when using that knowledge. In other words, a wise person does not have to speak to prove they have knowledge.
The most interesting thing about this quote is who the author is!! If he understood "wisdom" so well, why was his life so out of control, leading to an early death. It just says a person can have "knowledge", but may not be ABLE to produce the wisdom that comes from incorporating knowledge into actions. Now, the quote itself - I like Tyler's explanation. He explains how to ACQUIRE wisdom. However, I believe a truly wise person, owes it to others to SPEAK, if the learner is willing to LISTEN.
Anybody can gain knowledge, but to become truely wise you must be able to set aside your pride and listen to the ideas of others.
